What's New

2010

Starting out the New Year, BASSS was hired to survey a private historic cemetery in the El Dorado Hills of California. There were seven visible graves; however, the owner wanted confirmation of additional burials. Historic lore and old newspaper articles had alluded up to 40 burials in the area.
BASSS surveyed approximated 1/4 acre using both Ground Penetrating Radar and Magnetometry which produced information of up to 8 additional graves.

Then in August, we traveled to Phoenix, AZ, to work with Logan Simpson on the Palos Verde Ruin located in the city of Peoria. This is a Hohokam settlement which has been excavated over the years, now owned by the city, which is developing the area into a park. BASSS was called in to use Ground Penetrating Radar and Magnetometry to provide information of trenching finds performed in the late 1990’s. The preliminary results of the findings look very promising!

2009

In September, BA Silva Sensing Systems was contracted to survey the Garrido property in Antioch, California. The Hayward Police, along with four other local police agencies and the FBI attempted to find the bodies of two local girls kidnapped prior to the kidnapping of Jaycee L. Dugard. The local agencies brought in cadaver and human remain dogs and high tech ground penetrating radar (GPR) in an attempt to find human remains, possibly related to the two missing girls.

GPR, as a technology, has long been used to map cemeteries, Native American, and other archeological sites. Billy A. Silva, Principal Investigator, was asked to perform both Ground Penetrating Radar and Magnetometry to ensure the most comprehensive analysis of the data collected from the site. The result of this effort provided investigators another tool in their due diligence to fully understand what existed at the Antioch crime scene.

GPR was used to systematically survey the Garrido and a neighbor’s property that was once managed by the Garrido family. Details of the survey cannot be given out at this time. Stay tuned for updates to this story as more will be posted when it is allowed by law enforcement agencies.
